All wrapped up

Yesterday, I went for a cellulite reduction wrap at Glenda's Day Spa in Bel Air, MD.  One of my friends suggested such a wrap when I was complaining about the tightness of my dress, and while I think she was kind of kidding, I figured I'd try it:
1.  Out of curiosity.
2.  Maybe it will really help!
3. To be kind of funny

For the wrap, I'll give you my version of what happened, then I'll cut and paste the description from the website, which is a little more technical.

My version:
(after the getting undressed and all that)
1.  She brushed me lightly with a brush to exfoliate and stimulate my pores (I actually understood this pretty well).
2.  She smeared some kind of warm cream on me.
3.  She smeared some other kind of warm cream on me.
4.  Then, she painted me with mud.
5.  I was then wrapped in a sheet of mylar, a warming blanket, and a regular blanket, like one of those Taco Bell things that's a chalupa wrapped in a tortilla wrapped in a pizza wrapped in a pancake, or whatever.  I got toasty and drowsy and took a nap.
6.  She unwrapped me, wiped as much mud off as she could, then I showered the rest off.

Their version:

First, the skin is lightly exfoliated. Next, a cellulite activating cream is massaged into the body to stimulate circulation. A highly concentrated seaweed gel and complimenting dead sea body mud with firming oil complex is applied. We wrap you up in layers of warmth to help the nutrients penetrate the skin.

So, I tried on the dress right after the wrap, and it's still a little tight, but not deadly like it was before.  I am guessing that it probably has more to do with the fact that I've been exercising everyday for the past two weeks and have been eating healthy.  I do think the wrap did improve my skin tone a bit, and probably would have been more worth saving for the cruise, when my mid-section wouldn't be covered by a dress.  I was really hoping that they could do something for my jellyroll arms, but they said that the wrap doesn't really work there.  NOTHING has really worked there for me!

As far as Glenda's goes, I enjoyed my experience there.  She is located in a little house on one of the side streets of downtown Bel Air.  It was a little different from other spas I've been to in that her place is essentially a converted almost-rowhome (it was single-family, but small) from probably the early 1900's.  Her steps had the same carpet as my apartment in Hampden did!  It wasn't as sleek and modern and "zen" as other places I've been, but once I was in the treatment room, she dimmed the lights and there was music, and it felt pretty much the same.  I wasn't offered tea or water after the treatment, but I will say that I was quite late to the appointment, so it may have been a matter of the time lost.  I might go there again, but I currently have 2 spa Groupons and a spa gift card, so I'll probably use those before I pay someone.

  1. I do have to say this was better than Darra's other idea of me coming to India with her to get a tapeworm in order to fit into my dress. :P

  2. Hooray hooray! It's almost here! As far as jellyroll arms go, I'd call that a high compliment. A jellyroll always looks like the most delicious thing at a party. As I'm sure you'll be on Saturday.
